Travel to Savsat and Hopa (Turkey Towns)
Anyway, after lots of skating along this fascinating coast, I continued my way and arrived in Hopa. I got a car and went to the Georgia border. I intended to exit an enter Turkey with the purpose of increasing my stay here which was limited to three months but according to my visa I was permitted to have just one entry and exit. So I was not able to exit the border. When I wanted to return, I asked a driver to take me to Hopa and he charged 150 Liras for it. It was so shocking because I could pass the same distance by another car for 6 Liras.
The city of Artvin is situated among the mountains. Indeed, it is a serpentine city which is continued up to a mountain. Houses, hotels and shops were built at the sides of this spiral. A place where skating is equal to signing a contract of suicide. There was also a damin the way of Artvin. The way to the city of Van was not much desirable. I stayed the night in a hotel and the next morning started towards Savsat.
The time that I wanted to depart, I got familiar with two Italian tourists who were a kind couple. We got intimate in a short time and had a comprehensive talk then came to the decision of walking around the historic sites of the town. According to the arrangement that I had with a friend in Samsun, when I reached Savsat, his family who lived there welcomed me. Of course for the reason of being in summer and weekend, all the family had gone to Cevizli to spend the weekend away.
When I arrived, only my friend’s mother and older aunt were there. After their warm greeting, we decided to go to Cevizli so that I could visit that village and in addition, we could join the rest of family who were waiting for us. Getting a short rest, we went out to shop and bought lots of things. Actually we didn’t forget to buy watermelon as well. Unfortunately, because of being with this family, I couldn’t go sightseeing with my new Italian friends. I gave them a call and explained it to them.
I prepared the cameras. On the way we stopped several times and took pictures from the sceneries. Their mother was driving and her handling was great. On our way, we arrived at an ancient church named “Tibet” which belonged to the ancient times and was one of the places were used for both purposes of worship and trade. In fact, there was nothing left more than a ruin and at the entrance of it, only a high wall was remained. If you walk around the church, you will see that all the inside and back walls are collapsed.
We passed by an old school in where my friend’s mother had studied in her childhood. I took photos from the surroundings there as well. We stopped at another place and drank from a spring. The taste of its water was weird and I didn’t like it while it is rumored that it is healing.
Finally, after a short distance, we reached an indescribably beautiful house. We exchanged greetings happily with my new friends. His grandmother was there and invited me to the house kindly and calmly like a mother. We removed the objects from the car then and started talking with the dear grandmother about some stories of my journey. It was so delightful that I felt I was among my own family and had a sense of closeness to them.
Thanks to the good weather we decided to make a fire outside and cook chickens on it. I should point out that one of the best foods in Turkey is roasted chicken, mutton, veal and fish.
My friend’s sister and I were asked for going to their aunt’s house nearby to invite them to join us. We picked up the cameras and left. It was such a beautiful place that I wished all my friends had been there and enjoyed these attractions. As a matter of fact, I will definitely portray the scenes that I had seen with the help of my photos and videos.
On our way there I asked her to talk a bit about this village. As she said, in past years, wild animals used to come around the village and sounds of shooting the guns for frightening them had filled the air.
There were some lovely cabins there. If my lifestyle allowed me, I really would like to live in such village or at least experience living there for a while in that tranquility with no internet or other such things. It is enough to turn off your cell phone to have a deep relaxation.
Their aunt had guest and couldn’t join us, so we returned. On the way back, a huge tree caught my eye. I started to climb it in remembrance of my childhood, but I was not aware that years had gone by me because climbing the tree had gotten difficult for me.
Walnut trees had yielded highly and produced a notable amount of fruit. It is noteworthy that the name of the village derived from Turkish word for walnut “Civiz”. When we arrived, it was my turn to help them because all tasks were almost done; so I was assigned to prepare tea. I was not sure if I had done it alright or put my foot on it. I am not usually competent in such tasks.
Soon after making the fire, it started to rain, so we moved inside. Half an hour later it stopped and we moved outside again. The bread that they had baked was excellent. Bravo! Anyway, by the efforts of the team, several kinds of food were set on the table. I was peeking at it to stuff myself with the foods there. We all sat at the table and rout those various foods in a way that none could survive and all were eaten.
We had a long chat and lots of gaiety. I strolled around a little by myself and took some photos and videos. There was an exquisite sense of tranquility. I seriously needed this little getaway. I was wiped out from the hot routes. This family was so kind towards me and welcomed me so that it relieved my body’s exhaustion of recent days.
At sunset I packed my things to go back to Savsat and stay in my friend’s house in order to continue my way the next morning. After the farewell, we moved to Savsat. When we arrived there, everyone went to sleep, but I couldn’t sleep. I was awake for a while and surfed the internet.
After this mini vacation, I was ready to take up the way again early in morning. What a breakfast they had prepared! Having a hearty breakfast, I went on my way. The road was mountainous. The trees which had covered surrounding’s mountains put fear into people’s lives. It seemed that someone was looking at you among the trees every moment. There were verdurous plains in the way where wild horses were marching speedily.
